It’s always good to have a bit of a guide before you make an important decision. Especially when it comes to making purchases for your wedding.

With a lot of things you buy you may well have experience of choosing and buying them before: cars, shoes, meals etc. So you’ll have a good idea of what you like and what to expect. With your wedding stationery it’s quite likely this will be the first time you have even thought about it, so here are a few tips:

1. Always Order a Sample

When you’ve seen wedding invitations you like (probably online) you should always order a sample prior to making the decision that these are the ones for you. You really need to see and feel the quality of the card, the print and the finish.

2. Order More Than You Think You’ll Need

It’s best to work out how many invitations you think you’ll need and then add another 10 or so on top. This will cover you for any unexpected (or forgotten!) last minute guests. But more importantly if you are hand writing your guests names there will inevitably be mistakes… how do you spell Siobhan again??

Most wedding stationery companies have a minimum order, simply because of the way printers work, so you don’t want to have to order another 25 invitations when you only need a couple. That said bear in mind that couples and families may need only one invitation.

3. Have Someone You Trust Proof Read Your Stationery

Your designers will do everything they can to ensure your invitations are error free but when it comes to it it’s ultimately your responsibility to give the go ahead for them to be printed. It’s a really good idea to ask someone you know who has good grammar and spelling to check the text as it’s easy for you to miss something.

4. Leave Yourself Enough Time

Remember that your wedding stationery will take some time to design and produce. This is especially true if you are looking for a bespoke design. Even with ‘off the peg’ stationery you will need to leave time for your wording to be set, proofs to be sent out and approved by you and then the time it takes for your stationery to be printed and delivered. This last stage can range from anything between 10 days and 10 weeks depending on the supplier and type of print/finish required.A good guide is to start looking when you have your date and venue confirmed but to leave ordering until about 6-9 months prior so that you have a solid idea of numbers of guests and don’t get caught out by any changes.

5. What Do Your Guests Need To Know?

Aside from the date, time and where to turn up, what else might your guests need to know? R.S.V.P details are a good idea but you don’t always need a separate card, an email address on your invitations is an easy way to do it. Assuming some of your guests may have travelled some distance, or if you’re getting married in a remote location, it’s a good idea to include directions and accommodation details. Asking guests about dietary requirements is advisable but it’s really up to you how much additional information you include.

6. Getting Your Wording Right

There are as many ways of wording a wedding invitation as there are weddings. So as long as you’ve covered the basics: time, date, venue etc. then you can get really creative or very traditional the choice is yours. There are loads of guides to wording online but as long as it sounds like you and you’re comfortable with it you can’t go wrong.

7. Bespoke Design V’s Personalised

The joy of having your wedding stationery designed according to your exact specifications cannot be over estimated. With the right designers you will enjoy an amazing experience and have wedding stationery that is truly unique and something to treasure. However if you don’t really have a theme, or a good idea of what you are looking for, it may be simpler to find an existing design that fits the bill. Many suppliers will personalise stationery for you even making changes to the colours and tweaks to the design.

8. Budget For Stamps

With the price of stamps on the increase it’s an idea to budget for how many you’ll need. Especially if you are having a large number of guests.

9. How Much To Spend

As with all things wedding you can spend a little or an awful lot. Wedding invitations range from as little as a pound to upwards of twenty pounds for handmade or special finishes. So, depending on the size of your wedding, be prepared to spend between £200 and £500. Going down the DIY route is not always cheaper and not recommended unless you are particularly crafty and have time on your hands.

10. Don’t Send All Of Your Invitations Out

This might sound odd but another good reason to order more than you need is that you’ll want to keep some invitations back as a memento of your big day. Many people forget about this in the excitement of planning the wedding. It’s a nice thing to discover years later tucked away somewhere.

We hope you found this useful, if you did, or you know someone who might, please feel free to share it.

Wedding invitation etiquette can be a sticky one especially if there are divorced parents involved but don’t worry there are a few easy rules to follow so that you get your wedding invitation wording etiquette just right for the occasion.

In olden times the bride’s parents paid for the wedding so the invitations would be issued by them, but now it could be the couple themselves or both sets of parents who are paying, so you’ll need to agree between yourselves who is to issue the invitations.

Casual Wedding Invitation Wording

This will vary a bit depending on whether parents are issuing the invitation or whether the couple are doing so but in general this style is acceptable:

“John Brown and Sally Smith would like you to help them celebrate their marriage” then don’t forget the basic information about the wedding:

Date, time and location of the wedding

Time and location of the reception (or evening party as appropriate)

Where to reply to

If Sally’s parents are issuing the invitation then the wording would read James and Jennifer Smith would like you to help them celebrate the marriage of their daughter Sally to John Brown or similar.

Casual wedding invitation wording can include song lyrics, poetry or anything else the couple want.

Formal Wedding Invitation Wording

Wedding invitation wording etiquette says that a formal wedding invitation should read as follows:

Mr. & Mrs. James Smith

request the pleasure of your company

at the marriage of their daughter, Sally

to John Brown

at Holy Trinity Church, Burton

on Saturday 21st October, 2012 at 11:00am

and afterwards at the Queen Victoria Hotel, Christchurch

RSVP The Cottage, River Road, Burton

Now we’ll look at the wedding invitation etiquette if either set of parents are divorced or re-married. What do you do about step-parents? Do they expect a mention? Are you going to offend someone if you get this wrong? Here are some suggestions but in the end you’ll need to avoid hurting anyone’s feelings so just do what you think is right.

Sally’s parents are divorced but neither has re-married and are both hosting the wedding:

Use the format above or if they prefer it, list Sally’s mother’s name on the first line and her father’s on the second.

Sally’s parents have both remarried and are jointly hosting the wedding. Sally may wish to break with tradition and mention her step parents in which case Sally’s mother and her husband’s names should be on the first line with her father and his new wife’s name on the second.

Neither of Sally’s parents is living:

The invitation should be issued by whichever family member is hosting the wedding or by the couple themselves.

The Groom’s parents are issuing the invitation:

Use the wording as above but include the bride’s surname: i.e.

Mr. & Mrs. Peter Brown

request the pleasure of your company

at the marriage of Sally Smith

to their son John

The couple are paying for their own wedding:

They may still wish to issue the invitation on behalf of Sally and/or John’s parents or if not, they use their own first and last names.

Requesting a charity contribution rather than a gift:

It is very poor wedding invitation etiquette to even mention gifts but most invited guests will enquire if there is a wedding gift list. The other members of the wedding party should be encouraged to put the word around as to what the bride and groom would prefer.

Children are not invited to the wedding:

This is very difficult indeed and again should not be mentioned on the invitation. Invitees should actually realise that if their children aren’t mentioned by name on the invitation then they’re not invited but they probably won’t. Friends of the bride and groom may not appreciate that you don’t look on their little darlings quite as they do but be firm. Friends with children should be telephoned and politely told that children cannot be catered for. If they are offended, then that’s unfortunate.

Apart from the wedding invitation wording etiquette there are lots of affordable wedding invitations to choose from so click here to read about just a few of them.

A wedding is every girl’s dream and everyone wants theirs to be memorable so that it can be talked about for a long time. While getting married is a lifetime matter, the wedding day just takes hours for the lovers to exchange vows. For many people, it happens just once but it may happen more than once for those who have divorced and would want to remarry. Usually, brides go to great lengths to look good on this day material day. While it needs not be an expensive affair, a wedding is most remembered by how the bride was looking and the simplicity of the ceremony venues. This is in no way to say that simplicity is equal to substandard.

1. The theme color

We all have favorite colors that make us feel warmed up. For women, these are the colors they are most likely to select when they are preparing for their wedding. The theme color should be seen from the flower arrangement to the dresses that the bridal party is going to wear. It is the theme color that distinguishes one wedding from another, and makes different weddings to stand out from others.

2. The wedding gown

For some people, the wedding gown is just a dress to be worn to take you through the wedding day but the reality is that it is not. A wedding day is the only chance that the bride has throughout the ceremony to be her own designer. There are many types of wedding dresses in the market and the choice of dress is unique from person to person. The color of a wedding gown is traditionally white but this is not the choice color for some brides. Today, the ceremony is a chance of experimenting with colors as well ass style and what better way to do this if not the wedding gown?

3. The skin

Usually, a wedding will take the whole day and for some people the whole day and night. Since it only happens once, photos are taken to save the memories of the day for future reference. It is important to look awesome especially for the sake of the pictures because that is what people will remember. With a little bit of effort, the bride’s skin can be made to look radiant and attractive on her wedding day. A simple touch on the face as well as a rejuvenation facial procedure is all that is needed to exfoliate the skin and get rid of dead skin.

You’ve chosen the date, booked the venue and are ready to write the invitations to the magical occasion that will forever be remembered as the happiest day of your life. We all know people whose company is best avoided at social gatherings, but when it comes to your wedding the following five guests are best left off the guest list altogether!

The Drunk Uncle

The distant relative that everyone calls ‘Uncle’ who was sneaking whisky from his hip flask long before you said ‘I do’. He was invited because your Aunty Sandra said he would be upset if you left him out and besides, he would probably bring a good wedding present. Instead he brought a selection of inappropriate wedding gifts ranging from edible underwear to a book entitled “50 tips for a memorable wedding night”. He stumbles around the bar and dance floor, annoying most of your female guests, and ends up in a fight with your new father-in-law after giving his wife a cheeky pinch on the posterior.

Bridget “Always the Bridesmaid” Jones

Ordinarily Miss Jones is a lovely friend who smiles as she buys the beer and listens to your 1am phone ramblings without complaint. At weddings, however, she turns into a blubbering wreck, complaining to everyone she meets that she will never find a man and asking everyone whether all nuns can sing like Julie Andrews. She drinks too much red wine, throws up over an important piece of wedding memorabilia (usually the cake or the wedding presents) and goes home with John, the notoriously charming best man with the notoriously bad reputation. When you see her the next week she will apologise profusely, but you won’t find out what it is she is apologising for until you see the gesture she made in the background of the otherwise perfect group photograph.

Recently Wed Wendy

Wendy from work got married last year. The weather was incredible, she looked flawless, the food was to die for and everyone said how perfect the whole wedding day was. She can be found walking around your wedding making unimpressed noises and muttering under her breath about how the bridesmaids’ dresses are too short, how no-one wants to eat the wedding cake because the main course was much too heavy and how the seventeen toaster-shaped boxes on the gift table ‘prove’ that you should always register for wedding gifts. As if all that wasn’t bad enough, Wendy also commits the biggest wedding faux pas imaginable and turns up in a long, white dress.

Miss Havisham

A distant elderly relative who smells of cats, dresses like its the 1920s and wanders around the wedding party chastising cosy couples, quoting the most recent teenage pregnancy statistics and proclaiming how those kinds of shenanigans would never have been allowed in her day. She still wears her wedding band despite being separated from her husband for over a decade but don’t feel sorry for her act of woe; she was as likely to be the jilter as the jilted! She will criticise every non-traditional activity at the wedding what do you mean “to obey” is no longer customary in the vows? – and will refuse to smile for the wedding photos.

The Joker. Apparently.

An old school-friend of the groom’s the Joker lives for comedy and walks around telling every bad taste mother in law, bride-zilla and wedding night joke he has in his repertoire. His wedding gift is a handmade voucher for his newly “perfected” stand up comedy routine and in the middle of the wedding breakfast he grabs the microphone and starts telling all the embarrassing childhood stories that even the best man was too polite to include. He insists on referring to the wedding as a party and begins to swiftly replace your hubby’s empties with full beer bottles before pulling out a hidden stash of party poppers and silly string.

The fact is weddings would probably only be perfect with no guests at all! However, if you’re sure you’re not going to be drunk, irritating, limelight stealing or in any other way a nightmare wedding guest then you’ll probably need a good wedding present? If so, head to Barnitts.co.uk the home and garden store that does not cater to bad wedding guests.

Hosting more people than are usually in your house more often than not ends up being a bad idea. To avoid the stress of planning the event or gatherings most people hire an event organizer but at an extra cost of course. This may be however not necessary for a small event. The following is an outline of prospective options you might consider when having such a gathering.

1. Guest list

Come up with a guest list for your gathering. It is easier to plan for your event when you know how many people you are expecting over. In the invites, it is wise to ask your prospective guests to RSVP and confirm their attendance or absence. Always remember to make plans for an excess number of people to cover party crashers and children accompanying the adults.

2. Site

Having a party indoors is quite hectic as you have to clean everything up after the guests have taken their leave and take extra precautionary measures such as removing expensive glassware from sight. If the weather permits, it is advisable to put up temporary building structures outside to accommodate your guests. These structures are readily available for hire. Having the function outside not only keeps your glassware safe, but it also insures you against those not so trustworthy who tend to help themselves to small valuables inside your house.

3. Food

Some people opt to cook for their guests. This is not such a good idea as when the guests leave, you are left with a mountain of dishes to wash. There is also a high possibility that the food you cook will not be sufficient for your guests. It is advisable to enlist the services of a catering agency to help you out. They will deliver sufficient food for all your guests and best of all, no dishes left to wash. You also have more time to interact with your guests.

4. Entertainment

Every good party has good music. Most home appliances are not designed for outdoor performance. Therefore do not assume that you will just hook up your resident radio to the extension socket in the lawn without a possible risk of its break down. You can hire quality sound systems for your event which includes a good public address system. Ensure that you notify the person in charge of the music what kind of gathering it is so that he or she can prepare appropriate music accordingly.

When you are planning your wedding, one of the things you will need to be very keen on is how to make sure that you look beautiful. Specifically, you will need to make sure that you fit in to your wedding dress perfectly, so that it can bring out the best in you. Though most people think that this is an easy thing to do, the fact of the matter is that for you to get it right you will need to think about many things. Some of these include:

When to have the dress fitted

This is one of those things that you will need to get just right if you want your dress to fit perfectly. Ideally, you need to try and have the dress fitted as close to the wedding day as possible. The reason for this is that during the preparation for the wedding, you may do many things that could have an effect on your body size and shape. For instance, you could decide to go for coolsculpting to make sure that you have a nice shape. You could also go through the regular stresses of wedding planning, and in the process lose some weight.

The cumulative effects of all this is that if you fit the dress early on, you may find that by the time the wedding is happening, you may not fit the dress properly. It may turn out to be too big or too small for you by then.

How to get the timing right

The key to getting it right as far as your wedding dress is concerned is by getting the timing right. For one, you need to make sure that you make any deliberate weight loss efforts in advance. For instance, if you want to go for liposuction to get rid of any belly fat, you should do this well in advance of the wedding.

You also need to find out how long it’s going to take to make the dress, and then have it fitted with a bit of time to spare. For instance, if the dressmaker says that they need a day to do it, you could have it fitted one or two weeks before the wedding. This way, it will fit just right on the wedding day, and you will have enough time to have it altered in case it turns out that the dressmaker did not do a very good job.

You wouldn’t like to miss out on the special moments on your engagement announcement. The best strategy is to plan ahead and get the best professional engagement photographer who can efficiently capture the whole engagement activity live in a video, whether it is traditionally hosted or done the modern way. A close relative who enjoys taking photos can be a savior for the day, but it is important to go for a professional photographer since he will come with the right equipment and proper knowledge when it comes to capturing the special events live both as still images and in video. Professionals know how to work with lighting and different personalities. They are worth your consideration and you will see the rewards later in many years to come when going through your special day’s photo albums.

Photography trends

Trends of photography are changing with years therefore ensure that the style you choose tells a personal story of you and your partner. The style chosen should be able to show the joy in the couple which is the main theme for the engagement day. This will require creativity both from the photographer and the couple’s side. For example, the couple may take photos holding a balloon, leaning on a garden chair or sipping a drink from each other’s wine glass.

Engagement is a doorway to the big event. The engagement photo styling would give an idea on the wedding planning. The couple should take their time out with the photographer and discuss what they like and what they do not. This will give the photographer a glimpse of what style to work with.

The location

Your location choice for the photo shot is also important in capturing quality images. If you opt for outdoor photography, then check to see if the weather is favorable. Choose an iconic location in a site such as a hotel, a museum or even a historical monument that have good features. Make sure that you and your partner get to know your photographer well so that you may both be comfortable with the photo taking. The photographer may request for some photo scenes that portray your love and passion for each other. This would not be successfully delivered if you feel tensed around the photographer.

Lastly, you can settle on one photographer for both the engagement and wedding day. This will help to save time and money as well. If the photographer chosen delivers a good work on the engagement party, then you can rest assured that your wedding event will be well taken care of. Events that involving entertaining visitors can turn out to be costly and so plan according to your financial budget.
